The first was the obvious financial aspect, being able to finally say we’re at a price point with solar such that I could make an investment and expect to get some money back over the course of 8 to 10 years. But mostly it had to do with wanting to go as low carbon, about carbon neutral, as possible. To have a system in place to keep the house running and the lights on if there’s ever a power outage. Panels stop producing the moment the grid goes down unless there is storage behind them. Ryan’s battery keeps the essentials running through an outage and stores his own daytime production for use after dark. It was one of the four reasons he went solar in the first place.
